Local Friends clean up Pennypack

Employees of Vanguard Corp. teamed with 20 volunteers from the Friends of Pennypack Park and the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation to clean up and beautify Pennypack On the Delaware on Sept. 24.

Forty-three Vanguard representatives removed invasive burdock, Oriental hops and knotweed while clearing trails, filling in potholes and repairing an access road in the city-owned parkland.

The corporate folks and park volunteers collected 67 bags of trash and invasive plants from the park. The entrance to Pennypack On the Delaware is on State Road, just north of Rhawn Street. The park shares an access road with the Riverview Home For the Aged.

The next cleanup sponsored by the Friends of Pennypack Park will be on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sandy Run area near Ryan Avenue and Sandyford Road. Volunteers are asked to show up wearing long pants and comfortable closed-toe shoes. FOPP will provide gloves, grabbers and other supplies, along with refreshments.

Cleanup events are scheduled for the fourth Saturday of each month, excluding winter months. In case of inclement weather, call 215–934-PARK for postponement information. ••
